Install Lync 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

i get the TechNet flash with subject “Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 SP1 Arrives.  the next question, is it Lync 2010 support on Windows Server 2008 R2 Sp1?

What new in WS 2008 R2 Sp1? ws 2008 R2 SP1  is ready with new virtualization tools, web resources, management enhancements, and Windows 7 integration.  No one new related with Lync. The issue that i get related with new installation or remove. And I  check KB 2522454,

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/252245 : Lync Server 2010 Setup or Remove Component installation prerequisite check cannot locate the  Server 2008 R2 SP1 version of Microsoft Windows Media Format.

And same case with that KB: http://imaucblog.com/archive/2011/03/15/lync-server-installation-error-prerequisite-installation-failed-encountered-on-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1/

As long you install desktop-experience, you will not get check prerequisite error. if you install new Lync 2010 running WS2008 R2 Sp1, just add prerequisite as follow:

  • Open powershell, Import-module servermanager
  • Add-WindowsFeature RSAT-ADDS,Web-Static-Content,Web-Default-Doc,Web-Http-Errors,Web-Asp-Net,Web-Net-Ext,Web-ISAPI-Ext,Web-ISAPI-Filter,Web-Http-Logging,Web-Log-Libraries,Web-Http-Tracing,Web-Windows-Auth,Web-Filtering,Web-Stat-Compression,Web-Mgmt-Console,Web-Scripting-Tools,Web-Client-Auth,Desktop-Experience
  • And then restart your server
